Barcelona are infuriated with the Spanish national team and the medical staff involved with the international setup after the recent situation with Lamine Yamal, for they see it to be an injury that could have easily been avoided.

The youngster not only participated but completed 70 minutes in both of La Roja’s games in the recent international window, and the player returned to Catalonia injured with an aggravated back injury that could have been corrected with adequate rest earlier.

There was, however, a mild grey area over the Spanish national team’s awareness of Yamal’s discomfort in the first place – something that led to widespread speculation of who was at fault.

As confirmed in a recent report on SPORT, the medical staff of the Spanish National Team were aware of Yamal’s injury and even informed Barcelona’s medical staff of the same.

The relationship between both medical teams, after all, was smooth and positive when the international break began, with both parties constantly exchanging messages about the condition and fitness of Barcelona players.

In one such exchange, the Spanish NT medical staff confirmed to Barcelona that Yamal was suffering from an injury.

Another communication then confirmed that the youngster stayed back at the team hotel and did not train, and that he had to take an injection of ‘Voltaren’ to alleviate his pain.

The point that triggered Barcelona, however, was the third communication that stated that the player was given the freedom to choose whether he plays or not for Spain in the team’s fixture.

Barcelona believed it should be a decision taken by the federation or the medical staff, not by an 18-year-old who does not know the limits of his body.

The teenager missed Barcelona’s last clash through injury and is still a doubt for the first UEFA Champions League clash of the season to be played later this week.

Needless to say, a little more concern for the player’s welfare would have gone a long way in avoiding the entire situation.
